Ah, what to write in an online dating profile, it’s the million dollar question, isn’t it? I used to really be clueless about what to include, but through years of trial and error I really narrowed it down to some key things. In this article I want to give you some examples of what types of things to include in your online dating profile.
I think everyone can agree that you need to stand out from the thousands of other guys trying to get women to respond to them. The question though, is what is the best way to do that? “Hi, I’m Bob, I like staring at women from across the room, and occasionally stalking them” will stand out, but I don’t think Bob’s inbox will blowing up any time soon.
That’s why it’s important to point out that you must stand out in a positive way. If you do this and say some memorable stuff, you can show women you are a real person and not just a collection of words on a screen. By following the suggestions below, you can also be someone she responds to and eventually agrees to meet.
That being said, let’s get into some good examples of things to include in your profile
Passions
If you care about what you’re talking about it will come through in your profile and will make your response rate skyrocket. To be honest if your passions are more “mainstream” it will attract more women. If you’re passionate about ant farms or Star Trek conventions I can’t be so sure how that’s going to work out. However I still think that would be better than a passionless collection of words.
Communicate the Right Things
Some of the things that you want to communicate are that you are confident and have a good sense of humor. You also want to show that you’re well adjusted and have interesting things going on in your life.
Ideally you want a woman to read between the lines of your profile and get that you have these qualities, not just blatantly list off that you’re smart, confident, funny, etc… What’s better is to actually make sure you’re profile is funny, something that can make a woman laugh out loud (or at least chuckle). That shows that you’re funny, much better than just telling a woman you are.
Write Descriptively
If you ever browse through men’s dating profiles, (and seriously, I recommend doing it to know what the competition is doing), you’ll soon feel your head start to involuntarily drop toward your chest as you desperately fight off your body’s desire to nap. That’s because the typical vague list of likes and attributes is excruciatingly boring to read. What’s much better is to take one or two things that really show your personality, and get into more detail about it.
Say you’re a good cook, you can really get into detail about the food you make with examples and things you plan to cook in the future.
Being more detailed will give a woman an actual vision of who you could really be, which will definitely stand out among the crowd. You don’t even have to do that much with the details to really stand out, because 95% of men’s profiles are about as boring as a scientific journal article.
Keep It Playful
A profile with a lighter vibe will fare much better than a serious one (that’s probably seriously boring). Don’t get me wrong I don’t necessarily recommend being a total clown, and you can be a little bit serious; just keep the overall feeling of it light and positive. Also remember there is no room for negativity.
Imagine a real life meeting where a woman busts out her feelings on the state of the economy after saying hello. You may care to discuss the topic, but not in that moment.
This is that initial communication. It’s that first minute or two in a bar or a grocery store. If you can effectively keep it light and playful for now, you will probably be someone she wants to get to the serious stuff with…EVENTUALLY.
Use Appropriate Grammar and Spelling
Would you be shocked to discover that many women will instantly dismiss your profile if you have bad grammar and spelling? Well, it’s true.
Of course there are those women that will need to be resuscitated if they notice a comma missing from your sentence, and trust me your life is much better without them.
Still, making sure you use periods in the right places, capitalization, commas, and spell things correctly, is vitally important. Don’t worry about a mistake here and there but having the basics in place is key.
Utilize these online dating profile tips and you’ll be getting more dates in no time.
